Here at Under the Hood we are running on all cylinders going into March. The attendance at recent Ribs and Right and poetry nights as been high and we’ve got some new faces in the space in the last weeks of February.

We’ve got a lot of things going on in March. IVAW members and supporters from Ft. Hood and across the nation are in San Francisco for a campaign meeting. There will undoubtedly be some fresh perspectives from the conversations about the work at Ft. Hood.

Malachi will be attending the GI Rights Network Conference in Santa Cruz the second week of March. This will be a valuable experience for handling the many calls we’ve been getting at the coffee house.

Saturday March 16, Under the Hood, IVAW, VFP, Austin Pro Peace and a number of other organizations will be at the 9th Annual Austin’s Musical March for Peace. The event will start at the Texas State Capitol at 1pm, with speakers and noted song-slingers, then there will be a march with instruments to City Hall via 7th st. east, then going back west, passing through the heart of SXSW on 6th St. At 4pm a concert will commence at City Hall. There will be a formation of veterans at the front of the March.

March 19th marks the ten-year anniversary of the invasion of Iraq.  Though it is a Tuesday, Under the Hood will be open in remembrance.  Because it’s a Tuesday, we were reluctant to plan any event involving getting folks to the Coffee house, but Malachi will be there, likely watching ten year old footage of the invasion and trying to keep up with all the events going on in larger cities.

Saturday, March 23rd is going to be a busy day. We will be chalking from the East Gate to the Coffee House in the afternoon. This is something we are encouraging folks to come from all around for. There will be speakers and musicians at the coffee house in the early evening. Save the dates and keep an eye for the newsletter with more details.
